Like so many Pixar movies I've seen lately (e.g. Wall-e, Monsters vs. Aliens, Cars, Ratatoullie (sp?)) Up's previews made it seem like a light-hearted lark, swinging happily from one joke to the next. However, once the movie started, it was apparent that it was no such thing. Full of unnecessary sadness, like depression, grief about aging, and losing loved ones, I felt let down once again by Pixar. I mean, it had plenty of good jokes and characters, and the animation was superb, but I think Pixar felt it had to add substance and darkness into that happy world. In an America where people go to the movies to escape, it amazes me that a movie peppered with such darkness made the money it did. I admit that the movie had many wonderful qualities, like the talking dogs in their cones of shame (above) and squirrel mania, in fact it's probably my second-favorite Pixar movie (Next to Monsters Inc. :). But I feel that Pixar could have done much more with it.
